Remix Assistance with Neema
Full production and mixing on a multitrack based remix. Neema had the basis around what he wanted to achieve with the remix, creating a dubby acid club cut. I initially organised all of the stems before the session, cutting what would be useful for his vision. We then arranged together, re-recording bass parts, added an acid line, and drums. The vocal was dry and we wanted to push it, we utilised the midi from the acid line, and with variation used this as a carrier on a vocoder on the vocal, helping to include the iconic vocal whilst maintaining the new aesthetic of the track.

Tracking Ideas with D.Trips
We selected a new idea on D.Trips Digitakt and started by recording in the stems. Following this we recorded a textural acid line on the modular synth, looking at cv modulation. Pads were recorded on the Electron Cycles and ran through the modular synth, specifically the Mutable Instruments Clouds. Baseline recorded on the TD3. Foundations of the track built ready for arrangement and adding more spacial elements.

Studio Weekend with Delay Grounds
Pat came to visit for the weekend, giving us a couple of days in the studio together. He brought his full modular system alongside Elektron Analog Rytm. We built a sample pack of loops across our equipment, ranging from chunky basses, organic plucks, dissonant pads, general modular weirdness.
We also jammed out 3 tracks, providing a good basis for working on collaborations together going forwards.

Hardware Production Introduction with Jake
Jake had dabbled in a bit of in the box production and DJing, but was interested in creating music with hardware. We went over the studio workflow, with the beatstep pro as the main sequencing source. He created some drums, designing the timbres and automating parameters on the Soma Pulsar 23. Followed by creating a slightly generative arp on the modular, delving into attenuation, modulating FX; overall building an idea of how recordings of each part can begin to build a track with life, and organic movement.

Tracking Ideas with D.Trips
Production Session
D.Trips had a number of house sketches on his Digitakt. We took one of these ideas and looked at building it into a full track, We multitracked the parts, recorded more layers using hardware, looked at the arrangement and mixed the track.

Track Production/Mixing with OK Flex
OK Flex brought in a 16 bar loop of a recent production, that he needed help in working into a full track. The loop was properly mixed, and developed into a 4 minute arrangement. Extra drum layers were recorded alongside textural FX’s to bring life and variation.

Games Audio for Solid State Drive by Ryan Heath
https://www.ryan-heath.com/movingimage
“an existential arcade machine: a non-game, a relic of retail and a new interactive work of fiction”.
“Solid State Drive is an outcome from a period of self-led research and development, supported through Arebyte’s Hotel Generation, providing mentoring for the next generation of UK digital artists during the critical early stages of establishing a career in the arts.
It explores the birth, life and death of a retro racer — a gaming experience commonly found in bygone brick-and-mortar arcades. While these spaces have shrunk in the face of an increasingly digitised world, our racing simulator has had time to contemplate. Instead of competing, our vehicle takes us on a journey off-course to the back end of its software. Roaming through these cavernous networks, our program delivers a monologue questioning the relevance of both itself and the experience it is supposed to provide.”

New Shared Studio
Moved into a studio with 2 friends in Nottingham. Range of equipment was extensive, with us all having a fair amount of hardware individually.

Masters Project – Chance Trigger M4L Device
The Chance Trigger generates midi information, which can be used to trigger audio such as drums, synths, and special FX, alongside external hardware. The purpose of the device has been investigated, with its primary purpose and function centring around drum programming and the ability to create complex rhythmic patterns. The probability element allows alterations to occur to the patterns, relying upon the random nature of the probability to induce unique and unpredictable ideas into the musical information.
The sequencer can be loaded with various different samples using Ableton’s Drum Rack, using an 808 tom that has been tuned to notes within a minor scale.
When loaded with various weather samples the device can be used to create full soundscapes as well as other audio environments.
